![]() ![]() Throughout the meal, sketches appear on the walls and transform from black and white to vivid color while classic Disney orchestral music plays overhead. The room starts out black and white and, with each course being served, brings classic Disney characters to life. This restaurant was designed to tell the story of Disney animation using the dining room to simulate an artist’s notebook. At that time, the Disney Channel ran a special program several times a day that explored the new ship and featured a restaurant called Animator’s Palate, with which I quickly became obsessed. We took the cruise for my 10th birthday and it was one of the inaugural voyages for the Disney Magic, the new cruise line’s first ship. It’s on the Disney Cruise that I first remember falling in love with Disney dining. Although the restaurant has changed a bit, I would say this is the most family-friendly, laid back (but still sit-down) restaurant in all of Magic Kingdom.My love affair with Disney started with my first trip to Walt Disney World in 1993 and I’ve been back over 15 times since, along with 3 trips to Disneyland (Anaheim, California), visits to Hong Kong Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, Disney’s Aulani Resort in Hawaii, and a Disney Cruise. We certainly reminisce about it every time we pass it. Until recently, we have continued to visit this spot every year as a part of our Disney trip. Within ten minutes, a waiter had already left the restaurant, grabbed socks from a nearby Main Street gift store, and brought them to us at our table. ![]() ![]() It (barely) splattered on our shoes, but within a minute, all the waiters and management were over at our table apologizing. Midway through, a waiter tripped and spilled a huge marinara dish. ![]() Italian waiters greeted us and brought us to our table, where we enjoyed pastas, pizzas, and air conditioning. About 20 years ago, we made our way into this family-style restaurant for dinner for the first time. ![]()
